Aftercare decides how many of the transplanted grafts survive. For the first three days the grafts are not yet anchored, so no touching, scratching, hats or pillows pressing on the recipient area. Scabs form and fall away between day 4 and day 10 with the prescribed washing routine, which softens crusts rather than rubbing them off. Transplanted hairs then shed between week 2 and week 4 — shock loss is normal and expected, not a failed procedure. The first new growth appears around month 3–4, density reaches 40–50% at month 5–6, 60–80% at month 7–9 and the final result matures between month 14 and 18.
