The donor area can usually be trimmed with scissors or guarded clippers from around week three to four, once extraction points have fully closed. The recipient area follows a slower rule: no cutting tools at all in the first month, scissors only between month one and month six, and clippers or a razor on the transplanted area only after about six months, and only once your clinical team confirms the skin has matured.
They are two different types of healing. The donor area is a field of tiny closed wounds in otherwise normal skin and is stable within weeks. The recipient area contains grafts that are anchoring into channels, and the skin there stays more sensitive and slightly firmer for months. Clipper blades and razors press and drag across the surface; on immature recipient skin that friction can irritate follicles and disturb hairs that are still establishing.

When you restart, a patch test on a small area first and a gentler, ammonia-free product are the sensible approach. Any product you apply directly to the scalp in the early months should be cleared with your clinical team.
For the first month nobody should be cutting, shaving or rubbing the recipient area at all. When you do return, tell your barber you had a hair transplant and name the month, so they understand the stage: no clippers or razor on the transplanted zone, no aggressive scalp massage, no hot-towel pressure on the recipient area, and clean tools.
