The donor area can usually be trimmed with scissors or guarded clippers from around week 3–4. The recipient area follows a slower rule: no cutting tools at all in the first month, scissors only from month 1–6, and clippers or razors on the transplanted area only after about 6 months, once the skin has fully matured.
The donor area heals like a ordinary skin wound and is stable within weeks. The recipient area contains grafts that are anchoring and skin that stays sensitive for months. Clipper blades and razors drag across the skin surface, and on immature recipient skin that friction can irritate follicles or damage the result.
Not before about 6 months, and only once your clinical team confirms the skin has matured. Before that, scissors are the safe option for the recipient area because they cut without the blade pressing and dragging on the skin. Many patients keep the transplanted area scissor-only for the first year.

For the first month, nobody should be cutting or rubbing the recipient area at all. When you return to the barber, explain that you had a transplant: no clippers on the recipient area, no razor work, no aggressive scalp massage, and clean tools. A good barber will work around these rules easily.
